Last weekend, Melissa and I examined how we use our apartment and all of the stuff in it. Where we are standing when we need this or that, or which items are used at the same time. Whether we were both likely to try and do the same thing in the same space, et cetera. We thought about all of the stuff here and in the units, and made some organizational decisions to improve our TFH experience. We dug everything out from under the bed, moved seasonal items, like our air conditioner and remaining fan, to the back corner.
We marked the floor underneath so each box and set of drawers wouldn’t escape its designated boundaries. We ran new shelves up the bedroom wall last weekend for sweaters and pants and jewelry boxes. This weekend, we ran shelves up the opposite wall for sheets and towels–items we need once every week or so that otherwise clog our storage. Already, our hallway is more open and the removal of the air conditioner has greatly reduced the ambient apartment temperature, so we’re sleeping better. We’re experimenting with a French press instead of our drip coffee maker, adding about a square foot to our other two square feet of counter space. New shelves in the bathroom stand in for our lack of counter space there too. The TV has been pushed back uphill into the corner and its wheels wedged in place so it won’t try and migrate again. Sheets and pillows for the futon have been moved into the living room corner so we’ll be ready for guests at any moment. The Tiny Fun Houseplant is making a comeback, having a little rebirth of its own.
This reorganization was a long time coming. Thank GOODNESS we finally have a designated spot for all of Pete’s jewelry boxes.
I don’t mean to add a negative comment-only a warning: Be careful not to bump your heads on the protruding bedroom shelves when you get out of bed.
