TFH organizational chart

This evening, some dedicated TFH readers noted that they had almost no understanding of the actual layout of the actual Tiny Fun House. They are probably the only readers who haven’t actually been to the apartment, but for anyone else out there, here are two graphics to help out. The first is an organizational chart. You may ask, how big is the Tiny Fun House? Well, that depends on your perspective. You might see the TFH as less than 300 square feet. Or, you might say it stretches across half of the Northern Atlantic coast. As you can see in this diagram, the headquarters of the TFH are in New York. That’s the part that’s tiny. But as we are transplants from regions with much more space, we keep storage units in the D.C. area, a.k.a. “the units.” Yes, that’s plural. (We also have a “unit” in Tennessee, a.k.a. my parents’ house, but I forgot to put it on the diagram.) I have a room in northern Va. that I use for work travel, and where Melissa spends her Restonian vacations, which we know as the Reston Annex.

As for the specifics of TFH central, here’s a little floor plan. The side of each graph square is approximately 2 feet. Although I neglected to draw in the bathroom sink, we have one of those. It’s in the bathroom. I’ve included the shifty balcony where the plant sometimes resides. Our neighbor of playlist fame shares the fire escape, so her apartment would be on the left side of the diagram. We believe that her apartment is the mirror image of ours, and four such apartments occupy each floor of the building. Although I neglected to apply the compass rose, the top of the diagram is north.TFH map

As a longtime reader but infrequent commenter on TFH, I just wanted to say that this is perhaps my favorite post to date. I think the diagrams are very nice and informative. For the next round of figures, I encourage the author to include a work flow diagram on how goods and services are shuffled between the central TFH and the satellite locations. I may be planning a Big Apple vacation at some point and would like to learn more about the NYC Subway-Greyhound-Orange Line-Fairfax Connector method that TFH residents have perfected.

I will develop some informative diagrams for you, but I think you know how the movement of goods occurs, at least from NoVA to NYC: You may recall working with Scott to carry our futon up 64 steps.
