I think by "we" she means herself.
If Pete doesn't realize by now that when I say "we" I usually mean myself, then he hasn't been paying attention.

After you're married, you'll soon learn that the "we" pronoun reverses, and when she says "we need to do this" she means "you."
Advice from the FOB
Then, when you become a father, you start speaking in third person.
For example:
"Dad can't talk about it right now, Dad's going to work"
"Dad doesn't have any more cash"
"No, Dad does not consider The Gap an appropriate place for the emergency credit card"
Good etymological advice, all. We often use the royal "we." But sometimes, we use the pronoun to refer to Melissa, in a method similar to the one the FOB describes.
